Ian has been in the software development industry for 21 years, with the last decade in management. The first half of that management was in AWS' EC2, where he created and managed the "Nitro" tiger team within the hyperscale EC2 business, learning how to change its core technology engine in-place to allow future growth. After growing that to a 50+ person team and burning himself out in the process, he moved to New York where he reset his management techniques, helping a fintech company Two Sigma move to the public cloud.

Eventually he sought hyperscaling again, and so moved to Datadog, where he now manages about half the engineering org, building the core scalable data streaming systems that we hope will allow all orgs within our customers companies to collaboratively make decisions from their data.
