The AI hype has people believing we no longer need junior engineers, that all that work will be done by AI coding assistants. This begs the question though, how do we grow the next generation of senior (and staff+) engineers if not by apprenticing them through the usual junior —> mid-level —> senior roles? In this talk we’ll look at some possible futures, learn from other industries who’ve been through similar journeys, and together figure out a way forward that doesn’t kneecap the industry.
