This presentation sheds light on one of such biases: the misconception that software engineering focused on mobile app development is inherently less complex or on a smaller scale compared to backend and infrastructure engineering. This bias persists despite over 17 years since the introduction of the first modern smartphones. Its prevalence holds back mobile app engineers from accessing Staff+ and significant leadership positions.

This talk aims to benefit both, those who unconsciously carry this bias and those who suffer from its effects. For the former, it provides insights into identifying its root causes and pragmatically deciding whether to keep carrying it or not - hopefully not! For the latter, it offers strategies to overcome the impact of this bias and break free from its constraints once and for all!
