Tough technical problems are exciting to tackle and often engineers can think this is where they’re driving the most value.

More often than not, though, the real value engineers bring ties more directly to business value. In this talk we’ll discuss how to align engineers around business values so that they can see their impact.

Personal reflection

After watching the talk, take a few minutes to think about the following:

  1. If you were to ask one person from each department in your organization what the most important business priority currently is, do you think the answers would mostly be consistent?

  2. What’s one thing you would do to help keep people better connected to business priorities while respecting their intrinsic desire to focus on their domain?
